I guess you guys are stoned when you have your meetings? Cause I feel like I need to mention this to you.
Look I know Ron Paul seems like a really great political friend but he’s not. He’s a young-earth creationist who believes life begins at conception, and is also probably a racist and homophobe. I know that ad hominem attacks are bad - “just because someone believes in thing A doesn’t make them wrong about thing B”. But in practical terms, it’s a good sign something’s amiss, you know?
His belief that we should end the war on drugs is certainly correct, except that what he means is, we should replace the federal war on drugs with local and state prohibitions on drug use.
Now to be sure, I favor local prohibitions over federal ones - I lean libertarian (although I am of course utterly against the drug war, which is really a war on poor people).
But the data seems to imply that if you really want to fuck with people, don’t waste your time at the federal level; take it to the states. Eg, the people who REALLY want to end Roe v. Wade know that the math is on their side to ban abortion a county at a time, rather than “waking the sleeping giant” and mobilizing nation-wide groups.
So be careful, you guys. Don’t sell out your freedom to the gremlin with the song-and-dance.
